Why should we choose Aswab for our consultancy? We at Aswab are a mixed race partnership, and bring to our work an interest, enthusiasm and history of interventions spanning the area between race and cultural work, on the one hand, and therapeutic insight on the other. We offer training in house in issues around race and cultural awareness, together with conflict resolution, teambuilding and group dynamics training. In all of these areas we bring our specialised awareness of race and cultural issues, but, of course, we feel that these also apply where race is not a specific issue. We are particularly interested in working within charities and in the voluntary sector, and see income from commercial organisations as partly subsidising work with less affluent organisations.

What is the advantage of a therapy background? Conflict situations can become heated. By the time consultancy is required, they are often too heated and painful to be handled in-house. As therapists, our training and our inclination is to get to the heart of a problem, looking at what is really happening without getting bogged down in what appears to be happening. It is our experience that the listening skills inherent in the therapy process, and the ability to retain those skills while being clear and assertive, can help to cut through the doubts and mistrust often inherent when an organisation or group has started to break down.
